Virtualisation

Virtualisation is about taking the abstract of the physical hardware and providing for software, this is making a single server to do the job of multiple servers.By Virtualisation a server can be made to run as a software application on a server
and even have multiple servers running on a single server it also possible to have different os based servers running simultaneously from a single physical server.

Virtualisation brings in hugh saving in cost as it reduces the amount of Hardware which in itself is cost, and then space for the virtual servers,Power interms of power consumed and also cooling,Software licenses in some cases.

Virtualisation is categorised in various forms.
Platform Virtualisation which is about hiding the physical hardware from the software but provides the abstract of it.

When it comes to software products on virtualisattion, VMware dominates over any other company, it also need to be mentioned that virtualisation is in experimental satage with many of the vendors , Sun microsystems have come up with N1 grid container which is capable of running mutually incompatible programs.

VMware Infrastructure 3 virtualises servers, storage and network to transform your IT infrastructure into an automated, on a single computer.

Streamlining of IT infrastructure management using virtualisation results in server consolidation, and improve business continuity due to lesser downtimes.

VMware server is a hosted virtual server running on a physical machine, VMware server enables splitting of a physical server into multiple virtual servers.
